Scandinavian Flour Silo Shipment for Barton Fabrications
Barton Fabrications, the largest UK silo supplier to the food industry, has shipped its eighth silo to a major bread company for installation at its plant in Northern Scandinavia.
Working in partnership with German foodstuffs handling specialist AZO, the silo is one of four special leg-mounted, 47m3 flour vessels which are replacing existing coated steel units.
Due to the extreme weather conditions in Northern Scandinavia, the silos will be located inside the factory. To keep dimensions to a minimum, a bespoke product has been designed by Barton which incorporates side mounted reverse jet filters: this has resulted in an overall height of just 11.5m with a 2.8m diameter.
Commenting on the specific requirements that needed to be addressed for the Scandinavian project, Mark Barton MD of Barton Fabrications said:

Scandinavian silos leave Barton's Bristol based fabrication facility
"The environment is a key challenge as weather conditions mean a tight production schedule to ensure delivery before the main season of snowfall.
"Logistics have been a second key area to address as the silos will be lifted through the roof and installed into a working factory. We have to avoid any production down-time throughout the install and commissioning process. We will therefore be replacing existing units with new silos in two stages over two week-end periods."
Producing bespoke silo designs, and accommodating tight customer delivery schedules, forms part of Barton’s regular service and support for the European food industry.
