Sweet Taste of Penthouse Export to Poland
An 80 ton capacity sugar silo with a penthouse design is being exported to Poland by Barton Fabrications, an established supplier of ATEX compliant aluminium and stainless steel silos. The customer requested the penthouse design to provide additional safety for its employees in harsh winter conditions.
Commenting on the penthouse feature for high specification sugar and flour silos, Mark Barton, Barton Fabrications' Managing Director said:

"The penthouse design, where the top of the silo has a built on enclosure, used to be much more popular before ATEX legislation came into force. The use of explosion vents, required for ATEX compliance, meant that silo design and construction became more complex. Because of our company's robust silo design and construction, we have been able to produce an ATEX compliant solution which provides a duct for the explosion vent within the penthouse. This means that inspection or maintenance of the explosion vent or filter unit can be carried out within the safety of the penthouse.
"Once the industry is aware that ATEX compliant silos with penthouses can be produced at little extra cost, we expect a high level of interest from bakeries who recognise the safety benefits offered by the enclosed design."
Barton Fabrications believes that it is the only manufacturer in Europe currently able to produce silos that incorporate a penthouse design and are ATEX compliant and has already shipped a number of flour silos with this design.
